Even the biggest and best retailers continue to face challenges when trying to provide excellent customer service and increase profitability.
Last mile delivery can be a complex process due to out of stocks, last minute order changes, multiple inventory locations and the need to provide a competitive fulfillment proposition for customers.
For example, one day delivery from e-commerce giants like Amazon has many retailers including Walmart and Home Depot following suit. As a result, consumers continue to expect more speed, transparency and choice in e-commerce fulfillment, and retailers need to find a way to meet these customer service targets without increasing inventory and damaging profitability.
But increasing order volumes and the demand for faster turnaround times has caused many of the largest retailers to feel the pinch, and e-commerce sales are actually depressing profits.
