Robust.AI and DHL collaborate to deploy Carter cobots

Machine-learning cart-picking cobot undergoing pilot testing at DHL warehouse

Cobot manufacturer Robust.AI and contract logistics company DHL Supply Chain announced a new partnership to develop and deploy collaborative robots for warehouse applications. The companies will first focus on piloting and deploying Robust.AI's Carter, a collaborative autonomous mobile robot (AMR) for automating cart picking.

The companies said their strategic alliance leverages DHL Supply Chain's deep understanding of logistics challenges and integration of automation systems, along with Robust.AI's expertise in artificial intelligence and advanced robotics.

“At DHL Supply Chain, we're constantly pushing the boundaries of what's possible in logistics,” said Sally Miller, CIO and global digital transformation officer for DHL Supply Chain. “Partnering with Robust.AI, a pioneer in AI-powered robotics, allows us to continue redefining what's possible within the four walls of the warehouse. This partnership will help us to create a smarter, safer, and more reliable supply chain one intelligent robot at a time.”

Carter cobot to use Robust.AI machine vision for optimization

The companies said Carter’s AI and machine learning will enhance efficiency as the cobot can adapt to warehouse conditions in real-time, optimizing picking workflows and maximizing productivity. Carter's embedded sensors and AI capabilities will also generate data to optimize warehouse layouts, staffing, and inventory management.

“DHL Supply Chain and Robust.AI share a vision that is centered around people. said Anthony Jules, CEO & co-founder of Robust.AI. “At Robust.AI, we build robots and AI that amplify and augment workers’ abilities, and we are grateful to have a partner at massive scale who shares our drive for marrying increased efficiency with an elevated employee experience.”

At the time of publication, Carter cobots are undergoing pilot testing at a DHL Supply Chain warehouse. Initial deployment is planned for later in 2024.

Carter will join DHL Supply Chain's other robotic products, including a robotic arm developed for carton unloading of trucks, automated guided vehicles such as autonomous forklifts, and a variety of AMRs that assist with picking and moving cartons around warehouses.
