PITT OHIO heralds new next-day lanes into New England

Pittsburgh-based less-than-truckload (LTL), warehousing, and logistics services provider PITT OHIO said earlier this week that it is expanding its New England-based services portfolio, with the introduction of next-day shipping lanes to New England originating from three company terminals.

The company explained that prior to this announcement, standard shipping to New England from its terminals in Cumberland, Maryland, Baltimore, Maryland, and the Greater Philadelphia area could take upwards of three days, whereas through these recently-announced next-day lanes, PITT OHIO’S shipper customers will now see their freight arrive in 24 hours. Which the company said significantly reduces wait times, as well as top expectations.

“We're constantly looking for ways to improve the customer experience, and faster delivery is a top priority,” said Geoff Muessig, PITT OHIO Executive Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer said in a statement. “This expansion of next-day shipping lanes to New England for our customers in the Maryland and southeastern PA markets delivers on our commitment to providing customers with the most convenient and efficient shipping options possible.”

PITT OHIO serves New England through a partnership with its sister company, Auburn, Maine-based Ross Express.

Muessig told LM that PITT OHIO has done business with and partnered with Ross Express since 2016, adding that PITT OHIO acquired a majority interest in the New England based LTL carrier in 2018, when Ross Express became a member of the PITT OHIO Transportation Group.

“In January 2020 PITT OHIO and Ross Express announced a multi-phased approach plan to open next day lanes between the middle Atlantic states and New England,” he said. “Several months later PITT OHIO and Ross developed next day service lanes between NJ/PA and CT/MA/RI. In August 2021 customers benefited when both carriers collaborated to launch next day lanes between New York state and CT/MA/RI. Effective January 8, 2024, PITT OHIO and Ross Express completed this multi-phased plan when they launched next day lanes between eastern PA/MD and CT/RI/MA.”

“There is strong demand for next day service in these lanes as evidenced by the fact that both carriers’ shipment growth has far exceeded their expectations,” he explained.

Steve Brown, Ross Express President, said in a statement that Ross Express and PITT OHIO both have proven track records and the advanced logistics networks for consistent, on-time delivery.

“We are excited to continue to provide reliable, next day delivery to and from the New England states for PITT OHIO customers,” said Ross.

PITT OHIO also provides service for next day lanes to and from New England from the following terminals: Harrisburg, Hazleton, and Allentown, Pennsylvania, East Windsor and Cherry Hill, New Jersey, and Albany, Buffalo, Watertown, and Utica, New York.
